TONG CHO (T.C.) KIM

 

 

T.C. Kim has over eighteen years of experience in community education and outreach both from government and from community based organizations.  He has been a Victim Service Coordinator with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for nine years.  While being responsible for State Office of Criminal Justice Planning Grant Compliance, T.C. has assisted over 10,000 victims with Crisis Counseling, Criminal Justice Advocacy, Government Compensation, and Resource Development.

 

Prior to working with the City, T.C. worked in several API agencies, assisting domestic violence victims and mentally ill clients.  Most recently, T.C. was a Deputy Executive Director at the Korean American Family Service Center, supervising 20 staff members on various family issues including Batterers’ Treatment Program, parenting classes, DV Prevention projects, Pre-school child nutrition programs, and Senior citizen social services.

 

In addition, T.C. worked in the media for five years as an Investigative Reporter, a Managing Editor, and as an Advertising Director.  He was a member of Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles for eight years.   T.C. has translated and published over a dozen brochures for LAPD, LA City Attorney’s Office and the State government.  In last ten years, T.C. has organized and conducted over a hundred seminars, workshops, and press conferences on Victims’ Rights, Crime Prevention, Media Relations, and other Governmental Services.

 

Lately, T.C. has provided public relations and consulting service to LA DWP, First 5 LA County, and State Tobacco Control Section while providing pro-bono work for LAPD and LA City Fire Department in the areas of API media relations and API community outreach.  He is a frequent speaker for LAPD Citizen Police Academy, Explorer/DAPS Program, college campus mission programs, and at other community events.  Further, T.C. was one of the founding members of Korean American Democratic Committee in 1992.

 

Born in South Korea, T.C. studied Anthropology and Psychology at UCLA and has attained the Certified Victim Advocate (CVA) status from the State of California.  T.C. is currently the President of the Wilshire Community Police Council where he actively engages in fundraising activities.  Besides training new police officers to Wilshire Division on cultural sensitivity and victims’ rights issues for over fourteen years, T.C. is also a member of Wilshire Community Police Advisory Board and of Asian Pacific Islander Advisory Council for the LAPD Chief of Police.
