About the Great Western Grub Fest

The Great Western Grub Fest is a community wide, family friendly, smoke free, pet free, western themed "People's Choice" amateur chili cook-off competition.  The event is organized by Homefront America, Inc., an all-volunteer 501c3 nonprofit military family outreach and support organization.  Net proceeds from the event will go to support on-going programs such as scholarships, Easter baskets, school backpacks & supplies, holiday gifts, toys and meals, plus much more for our Troops and their families, especially the children.

WHEN:  Sunday, September 25, 2011

       Gates open at 10:30am

Opening Ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00am

 Arrive early because you DO NOT want to miss the opening ceremony

WHERE:  Historic Town Center Park

Take the 5 FWY and exit off at Ortega Hwy

Head 2 block into downtown San Juan Capistrano

Left on El Camino Real to the HTC Park

COST:  $ 5.00 Per Person.  Children under 3 are FREE

WHAT FESTIVAL ATTENDEES CAN EXPECT TO FIND AT THE GREAT WESTERN GRUB FEST, CHILI COOK-OFF

• Great chili sampling -  Military and civilian teams will compete in their respective categories for BEST chili.  One civilian and one military team will take home $ 250.00 for BEST chili.

• Awesome music - Country Western, of course.

• A variety of vendor booths - Clothing, Jewelry, candles, accessories, etc. Pie eating contest - Thank you Marie Callenders, San Juan Capistrano

• Children's games & activities - Face painting, bounce house, carnival booths, potato sack race, three legged race, hoola hoop contest, plus more

• Old West Gun Shootout - A must see performance by the award winning group, Spurs and Satin.  This amazing group of 1800 period re-enactors will thrill you and yours with their own brand of "how the west was won."

• Opportunity Drawing/Auction Items - Loads of fantastic "MUST HAVE" items for bid.  Take home the Foursome Golf Packages.  Treat yourself and your special person to a Dinner/Harbor Cruise.  And, of course,  don't forget the many great Dining, Entertainment, Casino/Spa packages, etc.  We guarantee there is something for everyone on your Christmas list. 

• Military and Law Enforcement Static Displays - Come meet our Marines from the 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, and Law Enforcement Officers from various agencies.

• Slam Dunk 'em - Here is your chance to get even with your friend and foe. 

So, don your BEST western attire and join the fun.  Bring the entire family, even the outlaws.  Bring the neighbors, even the ones with the incessant barking dogs.  And, yes, don't forget those annoying co-workers too. 

NOTE:   "BEST WESTERN ATTIRE" awards will be given out to the one Cowboy and one Cowgirl who can garner the most "CHEERS" from the crowd with their BEST western attire.
